My Book

I've long been told that I should write a book about my travels. And truth be told, I've always thought it would be pretty cool. As a kid I used to make up little books (in fact, I recall one about the adventures of a parrot and dog that had world-class artwork in it), but I've also been a long-time lover of travel memoirs. I used to read my Lonely Planet books wishing that I was the one who got to travel the world and write about my travels and all the things I discovered along the way. And as I found out when I started this blog, rearranging all the letters of the alphabet multiple times is one of my favourite things to do!

And then Covid happened. We were all stuck indoors and felt encouraged to pick up hobbies and start new projects. I decided that actually wasn't a bad idea at all. It also gave me something to focus on, other than work and taking care of M, that was something solely for me. I spent hours writing either after M went to bed, in coffee shops while Grandma was baby-sitting, on my breaks while working in the ICU, and just about any time I could cram in a couple minutes alone. It's a scary thing to write and know that people are going to be reading your work, even with each word carefully chosen. But it's also the best way I have to communicate with the world.

It's been a long process, having started in March 2020. But now, nearly 3 years after starting the project, I can finally say:

"I wrote a book!"

Coming soon....

A Day Behind and A World Away

Living out of a Backpack in Bangladesh

Cover Art of A Day Behind and A World Away

Based on my year in Bangladesh, this travel memoir dives headfirst into what it's like to live and work abroad as a humanitarian aid worker. The good, bad, and the ugly. Some of you may have followed my blog while I was there, so you've already had a sneak peak of what's to come. But this is my in-depth, real, raw account of what life was like - above and beyond what I had written while I was there, with brand new photos featuring images by the talented Eric Itin.

So, if you've ever wondered what it's like to live or work in another country, whether as an aid worker or not (or even just want to know what an aid worker is in the first place!), I recommend you check it out.

Actually, scratch that.
